Consistent customer experience can correlate directly with the reputation of your brand, which is why it is crucial. Once a customer has noticed consistency within a company the level of trust they feel will automatically rise. In the short term, little inconsistencies may not seem like a big deal, but over time they begin to add up. You must remember that consumers are a lot more likely to remember bad experiences or shortcomings that occur rather than everything running smoothly. While this seems like a contradictory statement, what would you rather have; a customer who has had a few bad experiences that tarnish the reputation of your brand? Or have everything done consistently so the consumer never needs to doubt your reputation?
Having a strong brand presence and performance is crucial to elevate your business. However, if you are not doing so consistently, what’s the point? The tricky thing about the implementation of consistent service is the pay-off. Some companies will start to let consistency slide after months or years of operation because they may not be getting the positive reinforcement needed to entice them to uphold the delivery. Unfortunately, this is where the problem lies. Just because you may not be seeing direct feedback about due to consistent actions, it is a subconscious thought process that is often noted, especially when it is lacking.
Saying this, consistency should not be confused with repetition. Although repetition in some aspects of brand development is necessary, it can lead to continuing bad habits. Instead, learning to differentiate between repetition and consistency is an ideal way to ensure your brand is growing and evolving with your industry and not at a standstill.
