UX Design for your Website

Having an engaging, informative and visually appealing design for your website is crucial if you want to quickly captivate your audience. When potential customers click onto your website, there is a very short time period in which they either decide to see what else your company has to offer or click off. So the question is, how do you create a great UX design for your website? Keep reading to find out.

What is UX?

UX is an acronym for user experience and is often used to describe the way that people interact with certain things, like websites. UX design in websites is what helps your business stand out from the online platforms of competitors. Additionally, a strong UX design will demonstrate who you are as a brand and allow your customers to make an emotional connection.

Quality Over Quantity

When it comes to website design, you may be tempted to pack each page full of as much information as possible. While there’s no one stopping you from doing this you may want to consider an alternative approach. For example, when potential customers arrive at your website, they’re looking for key information about your company. This may be the services you offer, pricing, portfolio projects etc. It’s important to remember that websites are often scanned rather than read in detail. So make your customers’ lives a bit easier by providing them with the information they need and pair it with some cool images and videos.

Visual Hierarchy

When planning out the format for your website, it’s important to consider the users’ site path. In other words, make sure all of the information you want people to see is at the top and easy to digest. That’s not to say the information at the bottom of each page isn’t as important, but just remember there’s a smaller chance it will be read in-depth.

Exciting, but not too Exciting

Similar to the amount of text you use on your website, you’ll want to keep exciting but distracting animations to a minimum. If someone visits your site and is bombarded with flashing colours and images, they’ll likely get overwhelmed and go elsewhere.

Like most things in life, UX design is about balance.

Purposeful Creativity

There are millions of websites available for customers online and your goal is to make yours stand out. Although you could go all out and attempt to reinvent the user experience people get from websites, we suggest finding a middle ground. Keep it simple and easy to use with the touch of your company’s special flair.

Know your Audience!

Understanding your audience is arguably one of the most important aspects of UX design for websites. This is because if you are designing a website without knowing the types of visitors it will be receiving, you might end up with an end product that never gets seen. For example, if your website is aimed at younger individuals, you’ll likely use brighter colours and a few more enticing visuals. Whereas if your demographics is an older audience, you’ll find better success using a more simplified format.
