Naming, branding, and a confident new identity

At Design JD, we don’t always inherit a name and build from there. Sometimes we help create it. Battersea Business Quarter needed a name, a visual identity, and a complete brand toolkit before it could begin attracting businesses, investors, and tenants to a growing destination in the heart of south London. Our brief: create a brand that communicated ambition, credibility, and place — all at once.

Naming with purpose

Every good name tells you something before you’ve read a word of copy. We explored options that balanced the area’s commercial ambition with Battersea’s distinct south London character. “Battersea Business Quarter” landed because it does exactly what a place brand needs to do: it tells you where, it tells you what, and it positions the location as a defined commercial district rather than a vague stretch of postcode.

Building the visual identity

Once the name was in place, we crafted a bold, quietly sophisticated identity to match. The colour palette draws on warm golds and deep, grounded tones — a deliberate move away from the glass-and-chrome aesthetic that dominates most commercial property branding. This is Battersea, not Canary Wharf. The identity needed to feel rooted, modern, and human.

The logo sits at the centre of a flexible system, scaling from brand guidelines and investor-facing documents to digital applications, marketing materials, and social media.

A toolkit for real-world use

Place brands live across dozens of touchpoints, so consistency matters. We delivered a comprehensive set of brand guidelines covering logo usage, colour specifications, clear space rules, typography, and layout grids — giving the Battersea Business Quarter team everything they needed to roll the brand out with confidence across print, digital, and environmental applications.

What we delivered:

  • Naming — Strategic name development for a new south London commercial district
  • Logo design — A modern, modular mark designed for versatility across scales and formats
  • Brand guidelines — A detailed document covering identity usage, colour system, typography, and design grids
  • Brand collateral — Templates and assets ready for marketing and investor communications

A strategic identity for a growing destination

Battersea Business Quarter now has a brand that supports its ambition to attract new businesses, investment, and footfall. From printed guidelines to digital-first applications, the identity is built to grow with the place it represents.
