Whether it’s your first time writing a brief for a designer or not, there are many things you need to include. Think about it like this, the more thought-out the brief is, the better the end result will be. It will be difficult for us to deliver the perfect website you’re hoping for if we know very little about your company, what you expect, etc. We’ve broken this down into different sections to highlight the most important key points that need to be included.
Tell us about yourself/ your company
Without any information about who you are and what your interests are, it’s hard for us to understand exactly how to provide you with the best possible product. Understanding your company’s goals and core values will help your designer craft your ideal product
What to include in the brief
- Logistics – Where is the company based? How many employees do you have? How old is the company? Basic company information.
- What does the company do? What are the core values of the brand? Any short and long-term goals. What about any USP’s? (Try and keep this section relatively short and spend time making sure the sentences you include truly represent your company)
- Annual Turnover – helps your designer understand the scale at which your operating
- Who are your main competitors – provide their names and website
- Do you already have a logo and brand colours? If not, do you have an idea of what you want?
Important people who are involved in the project
Who in your company is going to be involved with this project? What do you think their role will be during this time? Who is your designer going to be in contact with? Are there going to be people other than this design team responsible for deadlines during this project? This will help your designer know who to contact about certain topics without having to continually check back to make sure they’re not getting wrong information.
This doesn’t need to be a set list, but it’s helpful to provide an idea of how many people will be involved and their roles within the organisation
Overall goals for the project
What are you expecting from this project? Give a general summary of what you expect from the designer. Provide one to two sentences describing what you’re hoping this website will help you gain. What targets are you going to set to help these goals be achieved?
Marketing
As your investing time and money into the creation of a new website, you’ll want all current and potential customers to see it. Do you have a marketing plan? What social media do you use? Is there a advertising schedule that will need to be followed?
