Working from home and staying creative!

Due to the current situation, most people have found themselves working from home. Moving from your daily office routine to WFH mentality can be a difficult transition. Hopefully, the following tips can help settle you into a new routine…

1. Routine, Routine & More Routine!

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you should completely alter your morning routine. Still get up at the same time, make breakfast, etc. (For London commuters, there’s no need to stand with your hand on the shower railing for an hour to simulate your commute )

2. Designated Workspace

You have a designated desk at work right? Try and transfer this into your WFH life. Whether it’s sitting at the kitchen table or sitting in your bed facing the opposite way, it’s important to work in relatively the same spot every day. This practice will help you switch off at the end of your workday.

3. Take breaks

This should go without saying, but some hard workers might need a reminder. It’s not good for you to work for hours on end without taking a breather. Even if you take a 5/10 minute break every 2 hours or so and just take a lap around your home. This will keep your mind active and your spirits high!

4. Skype Calls, Zoom Meetings & Google Hangouts

If you typically work in a team during your normal workdays, make sure you try and stay in consistent contact with them. Perhaps a call every morning and then a late afternoon call to catch up. Not only does this help keep you focused on the tasks at hand, but these moments of social interaction are needed to keep your mind from going stir crazy!

5. Post-Work Routine

During this time, it’s easy to fall into the trap of continuing to work for hours and hours past the time you normally would. While this is still productive, it’s extremely important to train your brain to be able to shut off and relax after the workday. To help do this, try and set up a routine that you follow at the end of every workday. This might be writing your list of tasks for the following day or putting on your favourite song to signify the end of your workday.
