Town & City Branding

There’s no better way to make a town or city more memorable than through cutting edge branding. Think about, the biggest and most popular cities in the world are all branded to perfection. For example, in New York everywhere you turn there is great branding. Their iconic  ‘I 🖤NY’, logo is everywhere from t-shirts to city corners. Amsterdam is also a great example of a city that underwent a very successful rebrand. The ‘I amsterdam’ is all over the city and is recognised around the world. Now, we aren’t saying you have to go quite that far, but there is a great opportunity to be had – you just need to know where to look and what can be done.

No matter how big or small your town is, having cohesive branding is a great decision. Within one city there are so many different departments at work and oftentimes they have their own set of branding. While this is helpful for differentiation, there lacks a sense of community and unity. In addition, to the creation of a new logo, there can also be uniform fonts and typography created that will be used across the board in all future documentation and city advertisements.

The inspiration for the new brand design can be drawn from anything in the city. For example, when Paris rebranded they chose to incorporate the shape of the Eiffel Tower. If there are no stand out building or feats of architecture, the designs can town colours or city trademarks.

The benefits of city branding not only extend to visitors and tourists but also all of the residents and government employees. Places will become much easier to locate and the overall city satisfaction and experience will increase. Creative and innovative branding can help to boost residential moral while increasing tourism. An overhaul of your cities branding can also help provide residents with a sense of belonging and will make them proud to show off their city.
